A friend of mine showed me an app that is pretty cool, free and has the useful components to track your food intake. If we're looking to get into ketosis, too many carbs and proteins can keep you from that goal. MyFitnessPal to the rescue!

How do I know I'm in Ketosis?
Good question. Being a data-driven person, well you know my answer by now -- test for them, right? Below are the two main things we use to check our ketone levels. The Keto-Care strips check for Acetoacetic acid and the test unit checks your blood for Beta-hydroxybutyrate. The Ketone test strips are pretty expensive though, anywhere from $1.99-4.99 each, so if you tested every day for a month, you'd be into some serious numbers. Maybe forego the triple-latte every day you test. Here is the best source I found for the test strips, Universal Drugstore. Why use both you might ask? Well, it's quite cheap to do the urine strips and it is a good gauge to find out if you're in ketosis or not. The issue is as you adapt to ketosis, your kidneys begin to filter out the ketones so less show up on the testers. Blood tests are the best and most accurate.
Strava is one of the coolest tools out there. It's a free app for your smartphone that uses your GPS info to track your speed, elevation and route while you're riding. It really helps you improve your discipline of hitting the road every day/week, depending on your goals. The best part is competing with others out on your routes. We have a several hundred people who ride with Strava around our area, it's nice to see your name move up the leader boards. The whole social side of things is really fun too. You can follow other riders, they can follow you, give you kudos or comment on your rides. It's pretty fun to see other riders routes. For fun, you can follow us on Strava by creating an account and look us up by name.
